Maria Sakkari wins spot in upcoming Roland-Garros semifinals; Ministers congratulate player

Greek professional tennis player Maria Sakkari beat defending champion Iga Swiatek in her first career major quarter-final at the Roland-Garros tournament in Paris on Wednesday.
"She is the first Greek woman to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final in the Open Era," the tournament posted on Twitter, congratulating the Greek player.
In the semifinals Sakkari will face Barbora Krejcikova for a spot in the final.
Meanwhile, upon news of her victorious performance, Deputy Culture & Sports Minister Lefteris Avgenakis congratulated Sakkari in a post on Twitter, saying that she is "unique, awesome" and that "together with Stefanos Tsitsipas, they advance through the Paris tournament, touching the dream of winning a Grand Slam and being admired by world tennis. Well done, Maria, congratulations!"
Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias also congratulated Sakkari with a post on Twitter: "First Greek woman tennis player to advance through to the semifinals' 4 in a Grand Slam tournament. Congratulations Maria, good luck in the semifinals!"
