Judicial authorities on Wednesday announced that 34-year-old Roula Pispirigou, who was in jail on remand in connection with the death of her nine-year-old daughter Georgina, is also a suspect in the earlier deaths of her two younger children, Malena and Irida, aged three years and six months old, respectively.
The two public prosecutors that ordered a preliminary investigation into the causes of death of the two younger children have concluded that Pispirigou is the sole suspect. They have instructed the homicide department to interrogate Pispirigou and take her statement while she is in prison.
In the meantime, an investigation ordered by an examining magistrate into the death of Georgina has concluded and the case file will be sent to the public prosecutor, who is to decide whether Pispirigou should be indicted.
Suspicion regarding the earlier deaths of Pispirigou's children, initially attributed to health problems, were raised by the subsequent death under suspicious circumstances of her eldest child.
Once officers have taken Pispirigou's testimony, the file will be returned to the prosecutors, who will decide whether to press charges for the deaths of the two younger children as well.
