Tzortzatos' letter burns "comrades"
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A letter sent by jailed “17 November” terrorist Vasilis Tzortzatos and published by Eleftherotypia newspaper, provides an answer to his “comrades” that call the death in a rocket attack of bystander Thanos Axarlian “collateral damage.”
The attack which caused Axarlian's death was aimed at then finance minister Ioannis Palaiokrasas, and Tzortzatos notes that the rocket was launched prematurely as members of the organization were keen to go on vacation and were running late. As he notes these cadres should have been censured and never again allowed to participate in activities.
Tzortzatos also notes that, as it came out afterward, some of the “17 November” members had gone off on a tangent and formed a group within the group conducting bank robberies for personal aggrandizement. As he wrote at least 3 robberies were conducted by the group.
Tzortzatos recounts that at the time police cracked the ring, security precautions were being totally disregarded, while conspiracy rules were totally flaunted, to the point that from having 4-5 safe house, in 2002 there were none.
As Tzortzatos states this personal aggrandizement resulted in a total; disruption of the socio-political cohesion of the terrorist organization.
