SYRIZA's Dourou Wins, Attica

Syriza candidate Rena Dourou, after a true derby last night, was the big winner of her party. She represents the greatest victory of SYRIZA in the most populous region of the country.

Main opposition Radical Left Coalition SYRIZA candidate for the Attica region Rena Dourou accompanied by SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras in her speech in Propylaia on Monday early hours said that tomorrow is an important day that as the Left and the democracy dictate will be for everyone.

Dourou said that this was an important and ethical race, against the odds and the interests that was understood by the majority of the citizens, while she added that this win was just the beginning as tomorrow there will be a war against the interests.

"We will change our lives in the region of Attica, we will change them in the whole country," Dourou stressed and underlined that "there are no first and second class mayors and citizens."

Dourou is found to lead the Attica region race by 50.83 percent against her opponent candidate regional governor Yiannis Sgouros who gets 49.17 percent of the votes, according to provisional official results from 98.80 percent of the polling stations. This means that SYRIZA gets 61 seats in the Prefectural Council of Attica, against 12 of independent candidate Giannis Sgouros who had the backing of both New Democracy and Elia parties.
