A unionist of now defunct public broadcaster ERT is reported to have been cut by an edged instrument. The suspected perpetrator is a security guard of the current public broadcaster NERIT.
The government's surprise move of shutting down ERT and firing staff a year ago, led to an initial siege of the building, and occasional demonstrations, as well as a close watch of the public broadcasting building, at Agia Paraskevi by still protesting ERT staff.
According to reports so far, the NERIT security guard had been charged with removing banners and black flags protesters, mainly laid-off staff of ERT, had tied to the fence surrounding the building. He was seen by former ERT staff and unionists from the headquarters of protesters in a flat across the street, who rushed to stop him.
There followed verbal repartee, according to reports, and the security guard cut the ERT unionist, secretary of POSPERT, Gavriil Kassimatis. All parties involved were taken to Agia Paraskevi police station. The unionist filed charges for public insults.
