The economic crisis hindering Cyprus may quicken an agreement regarding the nation's divide, as proclaimed by United Nations Special Envoy Alexander Downer.
Staff teams from the European Commission (EC), European Central Bank (ECB), and International Monetary Fund (IMF) have concluded their review mission to Greece. The teams have reached staff-level agreement with the authorities on policies that could serve as the basis for completion of the review.
In a report entitled “Fiscal Policy and Income Inequality”, the IMF warns of the dangers income deficiency causes in world economic growth and the political instabilities it creates. The report mentions that, particularly in the US, inequality levels are worse than the ones during the Great Depression of 1929.
