The joint Greek-US aeronautical exercise that took place on Monday, August 24, 2020 in the framework of the ongoing Greek-US military cooperation, with the participation of media and personnel of the two countries, in the sea area south of Cret sent a clear message to the Turkish provocations in the eastern Mediterranean.
The acquisition by the Hellenic Navy from the US Navy of 4 Mark V SOC (Special Operations Crafts) is in its final stages after Greek Minister of Defence Panos Kammenos informed Greek Parliament that the US sent the relevant letter of concession in January.
On the same day, US Navy ships, as well as oil surveyors from ExxonMobil, arrived in the Mediterranean Sea. The ships’ arrival comes just days after a standoff between Turkish naval vessels and Italian drillers over a disputed economic zone.
