Turkish FM: Empty threats and saber rattling

Turkey warned energy companies not to cooperate with the Cypriot government in exploration drilling in the eastern Mediterranean, because such activities would affect stability in the region.
Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said that the launch of Exxon Mobil's research in the eastern Mediterranean with the permission of the Cypriot government does not contribute to stability in the region and that it will "disrupt some delicate balances."
"We are renewing our warnings to the companies involved in the unilateral investigations and extraction of the Greek Cypriots. We remind them that the distribution of the natural resources of the island of Cyprus is at the core of the Cyprus question, "said Mr Aksoy.
"In addition to our continental shelf, we will start operations in areas for which the "TRNC" has authorized Turk Petrolleri (state oil company)," the announcement also states.
