Crowd protesting police brutality turns brutal in Nea Smyrni - Officer severely beaten
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Violent incidents erupted during a demonstration against police violence, resulting in hooded men beating a police officer from the "Action" group, who was eventually transported with serious injuries to the 401st Military Hospital, but his life was not in danger. The incidents took place in Nea Smyrni square.
In fact, according to SKAI television, during his hospitalization he told the secretary-general of the special guards union S. Mavroeidakos and the president of the union Vasilis Doumas, who visited him, that "do not be afraid, I will endure".
Shocking, but also revealing are the videos from the attack against the police officer which leaked on the internet. Apparently, a group of police officers with motorcycles crossed the street in order to disperse the crowd. There, however, one of the hooded men, who was at a distance, but with his back to the police, ran towards the last motorcycle and with quick movements threw down the 27-year-old policeman, named Angelos, who is originally from Serres. Then he kicked him and in seconds dozens of people started hitting him with rage, either with their feet, or with sticks and other objects, in an attack that has shocked the whole of Greece.
As can be seen in one of the videos posted on the internet, the hooded men for about 2.5 minutes beat the policeman mercilessly and thanks to the intervention of the MAT riot police, the crowd dispersed from around him. The entire timeline of the attack is captured in the following video, from 2:25 to 4:55:
