Bronze Medal Olympian winner Anna Pollatou was horrifically killed in a car crash yesterday.

The Greek gymnast who won a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games passed away, as a result of an accident with a pick-up truck. The collision occurred on a Western Peloponnese roadway, between Patra to Pyrgos.  After winning with the rhythmic team at the Olympic games, the Kefalonia native retired the next year and taught gymnastics.

The Greek Gymnasts Federation released a statement, regarding the 30-year-old athlete's death: "The Greek Gymnastics Federation expresses its condolences to the relatives of Anna Pollatou and feels deep sorrow for the untimely loss of a gymnast who was a role model," the national body said in a statement...She was a young woman who had much to offer, and not only to sports."
