New Democracy calls for SYRIZA MP's resignation after inappropriate comments towards police
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
In a particularly harsh statement, New Democracy notes that Mrs Kassimati's move to post the comment 'cops, pigs, killers' on Facebook is an affront not only to the police but also to the Republic. "We expected Syriza to have democratic sensitivity and to disapprove. We invite Mr. Tsipras to remove Ms. Kassimatis from the SYRIZA parliamentary group, " said the governing party.
POASY to Kasimati: Apologize
It is recalled that the Panhellenic Federation of Police Officers (POASY) has also issued a statement calling on SYRIZA's MP to apologize and point out that it would otherwise seek justice.
"The Member of Parliament should, by virtue of her capacity, know otherwise, that male and female police officers throughout the country are not 'cops', but high-ranking state civil servants, who suffer daily under adverse and dangerous conditions to safeguard the good of social security and ultimately the principles of democracy. They are not 'pigs' nor of course 'killers' and no one, much more a Legislative spokesperson, can shake off such adolescent naiveté and transgressive complex mentality, even as a joke! "
Kasimati adds insult to injury
At the same time, Mrs Kassimatis seems to be unaware of the measure of her mistake, and in a statement she points out that she used a "stereotypical phrase that has been established in Greek society and in particular in younger generations." Indeed, Ms Kasimati says she is surprised at the reaction of the Police Association, as she says she used the phrase as part of a derogatory comment, "during an irrelevant debate on another matter".
