Venizelos Attends UNSC Terrorist Fighters Meeting
Greek Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos participated in yesterday's United Nations Security Council meeting, on the resolution adoption of foreign terrorist fighters.
U.S. President Barack Obama chaired the meeting; the United States currently holds the rotating Security Council presidency for the month of September. The UNSC unanimously adopted Resolution 2178/2014, that is legally binding.
Under the Resolution, UN member nations must conduct efforts to ban recruitments, organizations, financing, arming and transporting foreign terrorist fighters. States are required to adopt national legislation that calls for the prosecution of involved fighters who try to enter or travel their borders.
