Alekos Panagoulis' last Mayday

On 1 May 1976 a frantically speeding car with a Corinthian named Stefas behind the wheel, dashing on Vouliagmenis avenue in the Agios Stefanos neighborhood, forced another vehicle off the road and onto an embankment, where it crashed. The passenger of the second vehicle was none other than politician, poet, and junta resistor Alexandros Panagoulis. The 36 year old Panagoulis was killed almost instantly.

Seventy years from Kaisariani executions.

Communist Party secretary general Dimitris Koutsoumbas went today and paid homage at the rifle range of Kaisariani, where seventy years ago Nazi occupiers executed 200 Greek prisoners.

First contract for EAS in years

The armed forces and Hellenic Defence Systems (EAS) signed an 18.5-million-euro agreement late on Wednesday for the purchase of 265,000 40mm NATO-certified ammunition, for the army.
