Two firefighting helicopters collided while battling a wildfire near Psatha, on the border of Attica and Boeotia, killing a Danish pilot and a Greek flight coordinator-translator, hospital officials said.

Greece is in the grips of a fiery nightmare, with fronts raging in Ilia and Evros, while Lesvos is also going through tough times, with fires burning still out of control.

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou thanked 23 foreign leaders on Monday for their contribution in staff and equipment, including aircraft, to battling the multiple and devastating wildfires that broke out Greece since August 3.
