A fast-moving wildfire in northern Greece has claimed at least two lives — a retired professor and, in a development feared by authorities, a missing child — as the country's summer fire season delivers its most devastating blow yet.

The rekindling of a fire that has been burning since Saturday (July 26) on Kythira island has been contained, the Fire Department said later on Monday.

Vehicles were on Wednesday unable to cross the border into and out of Greek territory via the Evzones Customs Office in Kilkis, due to a fire that broke out at noon near the border between Greece and North Macedonia.
