Greece: Large subsidies to offset skyrocketing power bills

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday afternoon, as widely expected, announced a series of urgent measures to deflect rising energy costs in the country, primarily skyrocketing electricity bills, with the most prominent being a reimbursement of 60 percent of all additional charges imposed through December 2021 to May 2022, and to each owner or renter of a primary residence.

Biden will host a reception at the White House in honor of Kyriakos and Mareva Mitsotakis

A reception in honor of Kyriakos and Mareva Mitsotakis, on the occasion of the 200 years of independence of Greece, will be hosted by Joe and Jill Biden, at the White House.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrives on May 16 for an official visit to the United States in order - on the same day - to meet with the American president.

 

The reception of the US President in honor of the Greek Prime Minister and his wife, on the occasion of the 200 years of independence of the Greek state, reflects the excellent level of Greek-American relations and the interpersonal of the two leaders.

Present will be prominent representatives of the Greek Diaspora in the US, ministers, senators and members of Congress, businessmen, etc.

The invitation states the following:

"The president and Dr. Biden request the pleasure of your company at Bicentenial Celebration for the 200th anniversary of Independence in honor of His Excellency the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic and Mrs. Mitsotaki to be held at the White House on Monday, May 16, 2022 at 5 pm ".

The invitation comes from the White House Protocol Office.
