New Democracy draws line against Latinopoulou - Refocusing on PASOK as main opponent

For a long time, New Democracy (ND) followed a strategy of not engaging directly with parties to its right, such as Kyriakos Velopoulos’ Greek Solution. However, this approach changed recently regarding Afroditi Latinopoulou, leader of the “Voice of Reason” party, after she criticized Kyriakos Mitsotakis for having a “leftist soul” and claimed to represent the “true ND.” Latinopoulou had previously aligned herself with former ND prime ministers Samaras and Karamanlis, fueling speculation about her political aspirations.

Kefalogianni: Luxury tourism can contribute substantially to the overall upgrading of the quality of the tourist product

The further development prospects of luxury tourism, the challenges and the important position of Greece in this sector are some of the key issues discussed at the 2nd Luxury Tourism Conference taking place in Santorini on 12 and 13 October 2024.

As Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni said in her message, "luxury tourism is one of the fastest growing industries and contains elements of quality as well as exclusivity. It is certain that today this form of tourism is not only about staying in luxury accommodation or luxury services, as luxury is now intertwined with the personalisation of the experience and the uniqueness of the travel experience. Travelers are increasingly looking for the cultural richness of a place, the natural environment, the authentic gastronomy and the essential connection with the places they visit.

Particularly for Greece, the further development of luxury tourism can contribute substantially to the overall upgrading of the quality of the tourist product and to the sustainability of our destinations, making a key contribution to increasing its competitiveness and in increasing the benefit to local communities, the Tourism Minister said.

Dendias: There is a whole new approach to defese procurement

Defence Minister Nikos Dendias said that the challenge of deterrence in the Aegean is not only met with warships or fighter aircraft. It must also be countered with missile systems installed on the many islands of Greek territory. In this way we can achieve absolute deterrence both at sea and in the air. A change of philosophy is required, which also results from the lessons learned from the conflicts we see, in an interview with the Sunday edition of Kathimerini newspaper.
There is, he said "an overall new approach to armaments which we will present. Two are the main principles: Ensuring deterrence in the air and sea space of the Aegean and the perception within and outside the Armed Forces of respecting the fiscal space".
