The Turkish former MP of the pro-Kurdish party of Turkey, Lila Birlik, crossed the borders illegally and surrendered to the Greek police in Alexandroupolis where she requested political asylum.

A government spokesman in Ankara has threatened the possibility of an abduction of eight Turkish servicemen that have sought refuge in Greece, after arriving in the country in the wake of a July 2016 coup in Turkey.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry’s spokesman described the decision by the Greek legal system to grant asylum to the eight Turkish officers who fled to Greece on the night of the failed military coup attempt in June 2016 as “hostile”.
