The remains of six soldiers from Greece who were killed during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974 will be returned home on Thursday. They will be delivered following an official handover ceremony that will take place at Church of Divine Wisdom in Strovolos, Cyprus on Thursday morning, in the presence of their family and officials from the Greek and Cypriot governments.

Cyprus will mark on Friday the 44th anniversary of the 1974 Turkish invasion with air raid sirens at 5.30am and memorial services islandwide.

In commemoration of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus by Turkish forces on July 20 1974, the sirens wailed across the island on Thursday at 5.30am, the time of the first attack on the town of Kyrenia.
