Intense behind the scenes diplomacy is in progress in order to achieve de-escalation in the region of the southeastern Mediterranean and to avoid an accident that could lead to a hot incident between Greece and Turkey.

The joint Greek-US aeronautical exercise that took place on Monday, August 24, 2020 in the framework of the ongoing Greek-US military cooperation, with the participation of media and personnel of the two countries, in the sea area south of Cret sent a clear message to the Turkish provocations in the eastern Mediterranean. 

French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on his twitter account about his decision to bolster French military presence in the Eastern Mediterranean and did so in Greek (!).
