ECB lowers ELA ceiling for Greek banks

The Governing Council of the European Central Bank approved a request by the Bank of Greece to lower the ELA-ceiling for Greek banks to 51.1 billion euros, up to and including Wednesday, 16 November 2016.

The European Central Bank lacks the necessary tools to deal effectively with the debt crisis and the banking crisis and this is one of the major shortcomings in the Eurozone, President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos said on Tuesday, in a meeting with Bank of Greece Governor Yannis Stournaras.

ECB reinstates waiver for Greek bonds

The governing council of the European Central Bank (ECB) announced on Wednesday it is reinstating a waiver affecting the eligibility of Greek bonds used as collateral in the bank’s funding operations, in a move that was widely anticipated.
