The U.S. State Department has given Congress the necessary assurances regarding Greece's security in the Aegean and the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey, Congressman John Sarbanes confirmed in statements to Open television on Wednesday.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu went to Washington and had a bilateral meeting with his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken, where, among other things, the purchase and modernization of F-16s was discussed. The Turkish official had a difficult mission and cultivated high expectations, while also putting Greece on the "menu".

The United States urges that any disagreements between NATO allies be resolved diplomatically, State Department spokesman Ned Price said, referring to the Turkish foreign minister's threats against Greece.
