A total of 62 fires broke out in the last 24 hours, most of them due to lightning during the powerful weather front raging in Greece on Thursday, the Fire Brigade said.

Attica was put to the test by fire on Sunday (30/6) as the Fire Brigade faced two large fires that broke out a few hours apart in Keratea and Stamata.

The university hospitals in the cities of Patras, Aegio and Rio have been put in high alert by order of Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias, as has the National Emergency Response Ambulance Center (EKAV) against the unfolding forest fire at Zeria, Achaia, northwestern Peloponnese, it was reported on Saturday.
