Hoof and mouth disease leads to Lesvos lockdown

Authorities on the island of Lesbos have imposed a total ban on animal movements and suspended all dairy trade following the first confirmed outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in the region in over 30 years.

Turkish human traffickers opened fire with a firearm against a vessel of the Greek Port Authority off the area of Aghios Fokas, in the southern Lesvos island, on Saturday morning. No one was injured.
