January 31 is the deadline for all interested parties wishing to gain access to subsidies under the new development law estimated by the end of 2020 to distribute some 4.2-4.3 billion euros.

Over 800,000 farmers will have to return the funds they received five years ago as they have been described as non-compliant with European Union legislation and deemed to constitute state subsidies.

Greek farmers are objecting to the new tax law, which rules that starting in 2014, they are to get taxed according to their actual income, not objective criteria set after negotiations.
