Greeks choose Athens, Thessaloniki and Tinos for travel in September
Athens, Thessaloniki, and Tinos’ Hora topped the list of most popular destinations in Greece for Greek travelers, for the month of September, according to the October bulletin of INSETE, the Greek Tourism Confederation’s (SETE) research department.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the liturgy for the Dormition of the Virgin Mary on the island of Tinos on Thursday, followed by the commemoration of the sinking of "Elli" in 1940 while the battleship was anchored at sea for August 15 celebrations.

On 15 August 1940, during the feast of the Dormition of the Virgin, Greeks were celebrating the Most Venerated Mother of the Christ throughout the country. Nowhere was (and still is) the feast more auspicious than on the island of Tinos, where a famous “miraculous” icon is kept in a resplendid church. The Hellenic Navy, as always, had despatched one of its ablest ships the protected cruiser Elli to participate in the festivities and provide an honor guard for the procession of the icon.
