Vilia - The fire is out of control
The situation because of the big fire in the area of Vilia is dramatic. At night five more settlements were evacuated (Thea, Panorama, Paleochori, Paleokoundoura and Agia Sotira) and the nursing home "Panagia Faneromeni", as the flames that spread on a large front approached residential areas burning dense and inaccessible virgin pine forest on Mount Patera.
Wildfires in Lavrio and Vilia
A fire is in progress at Markati in the Municipality of Lavreotiki, threatening houses.
According to the Fire Department, the fire broke out in an inaccessible place in a ravine, where there are scattered houses.
Lavrio
Strong fire fighting forces are operating at the spot, with 13 vehicles, 38 firefighters, two squads on foot, while 6 aircraft and 4 helicopters are dropping water from the air.
Vilia
A fire, apart from Keratea, has also broken out in Vilia, Attica. According to the Fire Brigade, ground and air forces are operating. More specifically, 24 firefighters are operating with two vehicles, while two helicopters and two planes are dropping water.
The settlements of Agios Georgios and Paleochori are evacuated due to the fire in Vilia.
Fires – More than 100Κ hectares turned to ashes in two weeks
More than 100,000 hectares were burned in two weeks in Greece, a record number for the country after the deadly wildfires of 2007, according to data from the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS) which was updated today.
