A 7-year-old girl died after falling into a glass door while playing in an apartment in the southern Athens suburb of Kallithea, prompting police to arrest her 37-year-old aunt on suspicion of manslaughter by negligence.

The European Union is preparing for an increased risk of wildfires during the upcoming summer months. As announced today by the European Commission, the EU has already assembled firefighting teams and aircraft to assist European countries that might be affected by fires this year.

"Greece, as one of NATO's oldest members, can serve as a model for other partners, particularly in Southeastern Europe, by strengthening its leadership role in regional security initiatives," stated U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in a letter to Greek Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias. In his correspondence, Secretary Hegseth expressed gratitude for Minister Dendias's congratulatory letter regarding his appointment and for Greece's ongoing support in bilateral cooperation.
