In a special ceremony held at the Greek embassy in Rome, the grandson of former Italian prime minister Alcide De Gasperi presented to Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni an ancient vessel that had been given as a gift to his grandfather by the Greek government in 1953.

The Hellenic Initiative (THI) has awarded a $25,000 grant to Nosilia, a nonprofit that has pioneered palliative care for people of limited mobility and financial means in Greece, especially the elderly. The grant funds Nosilia’s new ‘Γήρας τιμάν- Honor the Elderly’ program which focuses on providing care to those over 65. With the elderly population in Greece growing and healthcare resources stretched thin, Nosilia’s work has become increasingly critical. With this support from THI, Nosilia aims to reach and assist 100 patients in the coming year.
 

A new English-speaking Department of Medicine is starting at the University of Thessaly on October 7, which will welcome 40 international students in Larissa. This is the first foreign-language department at this university and the fourth in a row, after the Universities of Thessaloniki, Athens and Crete.

The launching of the “Nearchos”, (Belh@ra or FDI in the French Navy and Kimon-Class for the Hellenic Navy), is taking place today in the presence of the Minister of Defence Nikos Dendias.
