The Greek state budget recorded a primary surplus of 4.392 billion euros in 2016, surpassing a primary surplus of 2.270 billion in 2015 and a budget target for surplus of 1.983 billion euros, the Finance ministry said on Tuesday.

The national policy should focus on primary surpluses of 2 pct after 2018, main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in an interview with Star TV late on Monday.

According to the data available for the execution of the State Budget on a modified cash basis, the State Budget balance for the period of January - May of 2016 presented a deficit of 814 million Euros, against the target of 2016 Budget of deficit of 3,880 million Euros and the deficit of 1,399 million Euros for the same period of 2015.
