Angelina Jolie: "I love Greece and the Greeks
Angelina Jolie attended the premiere of her film “Maria” at the 68th BFI London Film Festival held at The Royal Festival Hall on Friday 18/10.
The famous actress, who plays Maria Callas, spoke to the camera of ANT1 and Isaac Karipidis and mentioned Greece, where she was filming the film, saying that she loves the Greeks.
“What I liked most about Greece was the people. Yes, I love the Greeks. I had a wonderful time in Greece. I was so happy that we started filming the film in Greece. I had a lot of support and wonderful conversations with the people I met. How can you play Maria if you don’t connect, don’t talk to Greeks.
Technically, the biggest challenge was singing and for me, overcoming my nervousness and singing in front of people. The most difficult thing when you play a person's life is your concern not to disappoint the people who loved her and for whom she means a lot. I didn't want to disappoint them and the world of opera."
"I've been to Greece again. I filmed in Santorini many years ago," Angelina Jolie told ANT1.
Angelina Papadopoulou, the young "Maria Callas"
Angelina Papadopoulou, who plays the young Maria Callas in the film "Maria," also spoke to Isaac Karipidis.
"It was definitely difficult for me to get into the role and psyche of Maria Callas. She was a very special person, even in her childhood, the young woman I play, at 17 years old. When I was able to do it and I managed to do it, it was very beautiful. I experienced all that emotion and all the complex emotions that she was feeling,” said Angelina Papadopoulou.
“I think for most people, and maybe especially for women, I think that you get to a point in your life where you really try to get to know your voice. I didn’t know I could sing. I hadn’t expressed myself out loud and openly for a long time. So for me it was kind of therapeutic. Which is important for a lot of people, too, to make sure that they haven’t lost their voice at different stages of their lives. And to try to find it one way or another. That helped me and it helped me with her voice to learn about discipline,” added Angelina Jolie.
