The European Commission released its revised report for Greece regarding the enhanced surveillance, pointing out it had made significant progress in completing its commitments following the passing of the amendment by the Greek parliament of the new framework for the protection of the primary residence.
Replying to European Parliament Vice President and MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis on concerns over the Greek minority’s rights in southern Albania, European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn said the Commission placed great importance on protecting ethnic minority rights and was closely following the issue.
The European Union remains committed to good neighbourly relations and respect of international agreements, EU spokesperson Maja Kocijancic told EURACTIV.com following tensions between Athens and Ankara on the expansion of territorial waters in the Aegean.
