Tax dodging comes under scrutiny

Alternate Justice Minister for Corruption Dimitris Papangelopoulos presented a bill to Parliament that will facilitat the judiciary in prosecuting cases involving large-scale tax evasion and embezzlement.

According to the draft law that will be voted on Tuesday, prosecutors will be allowed to make use of evidence that has been obtained without going through the proper channels to investigate suspects.

The bill is expected to pave the way for judicial authorities to restart investigations into cases that have stalled over evidentiary procedure, most notably a probe into the so-called “Lagarde list” of Greeks with large deposits in HSBC in Geneva.
