Yet another climber rescued from Mount Olympus

Efforts to scale the "Mountain of the Gods" under adverse weather conditions, in the midst of winter continue, as intrepid climbers brave the treacherous precipices and often find themselves in peril, forcing rescuers and armed forces to find them, sometimes after a fatal fall.

A Hellenic Air Force Super Puma Helicopter picked up the most recent victim of the mountain, from the "G. Apostolidis" shelter and flew her to the hospital of Larissa, at approximately 1:30, Sunday morning.

The rescue efforts had begun at 11am on Saturday for the 35-year-old climber who was injured after falling at the Louki Stephani at an altitude of about 2,800 meters. On the afternoon of Saturday, she was located and transported by stretcher to the "G. Apostolidis" shelter.

In the first attempt, the helicopter was unable to reach the point and left the area, as darkness fell. The Super Puma returned, outfitted with night gear and managed to pick up the woman. She arrived at the hospital in Larissa at around 01.40 on Sunday morning.

 

 

Η επιχείρηση είχε ξεκινήσει από τις 11 το πρωί του Σαββάτου, για την 35χρονη ορειβάτη που είχε τραυματιστεί έπειτα από πτώση στο λούκι Στεφανιού, σε υψόμετρο περίπου 2.800 μέτρων. Το απόγευμα του Σαββάτου εντοπίστηκε και μεταφέρθηκε με φορείο στο καταφύγιο «Γ. Αποστολίδης».

Στην πρώτη προσπάθεια που έγινε, το ελικόπτερο δεν μπόρεσε να προσεγγίσει το σημείο και αποχώρησε από την περιοχή, καθώς έπεσε το σκοτάδι. Το Super Puma επέστρεψε, με νυχτερινό εξοπλισμό και κατάφερε να παραλάβει τη γυναίκα.
