Eleven Balkan leaders, joined by EU officials, issue Athens Declaration

Eleven leaders of Balkan countries including Greece meeting in Athens expressed their "unwavering support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, based on the values of democracy and rule of law" in the face of Russian aggression, on Monday night.

Greece's leading role as a pillar of stability in the Balkans and Southeast Europe is confirmed by the organization of tonight's informal dinner by the government and the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with the participation of the leaders of the countries of the Western Balkans, as well as countries in the region , which are now member states of the European Union, in the presence of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel and the President of the European Commission, Ursulas von der Leyen, as the government representative, Pavlos Marinakis, emphasized in his introductory statement. Mr. Marinakis did not fail, in fact, to condemn in a strict tone the attacks of the Turkish Cypriots against members of the UN peacekeeping force inside the dead zone and reaffirmed that Greece and Cyprus are absolutely identical in asserting the self-evident rights of the Republic of Cyprus.
