National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias represented the government at the events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Kythera from German occupation. Dendias visited the Liberation Monument located at Kapsali Port, where he laid a wreath.

Firefighters were able to contain again the wildfire burning on Kythera for the fifth day on Tuesday, after the flames were briefly rekindled in the southern part of the island, the fire brigade said. 

Agriculture Minister Vangelis Apostolou expressed optimism on Sunday that the large wildfire sweeping through swathes of low vegetation in Kythera for the third day will be extinguished on Monday as firefighting aircraft will return to drop water.
