The all-male monastic community of Mount Athos on Wednesday announced it will extend its ban on visitors or pilgrims until April 20, as part of measures against the coronavirus pandemic.

The Ritsona refugee and asylum-seekers camp has been placed on a full lockdown for the next 14 days as of Thursday morning, after 20 residents tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The lockdown was ordered by Migration and Asylum Minister Notis Mitarakis in collaboration with Deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias and the head of the National Organisation for Public Health (NOPH), Panagiotis Arkoumaneas.

Five municipalities in northern Greece are on lockdown as of Tuesday night, Civil Protection Deputy Minister for Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias said at the daily briefing on developments in Greece regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.
