A committee of health ministry experts convened on Thursday to discuss the epidemiological situation in Greece, following a rash of Covid-19 cases and hospital admissions seen in the community in recent weeks.

The number of coronavirus cases has remained stable in five-digit numbers in recent days. The Omicron variant is more contagious and the cases went up dangerously, as during the holidays the people gathered in groups, as pointed out by Panagis Galiatsatos, professor of Pulmonology at John Hopkins University.

The Greek economy is under the threat of a double crisis. On the one hand, the Omicron variant has put new data on the table, with the strictest measures at the gates, while at the same time the price increases in the Greek market create an “explosive” climate in households and small and medium enterprises.
