Twenty-six arrests on the islands of the South Aegean for beach violations

in the framework of intensive checks carried out by the police services of the South Aegean for the observance of the legislation regarding the use of beach, the three days (18-20 August 2023) in Mykonos, Paros, Antiparos, Naxos, Karpathos and Rhodes were arrested by control levels - 26 persons, as owners/store managers/legal representatives, found to be in violation of applicable provisions.

Specifically, the violations found were related to the occupation of the beach with umbrella seats without a permit from the competent Authority, the occupation of the beach with umbrella seats in excess of the permit, the installation of arbitrary constructions and the use of space that falls under protective provisions of archaeology.

In more detail, they were arrested:

At Mykonos:

- temporarily in charge of a health care store which operated illegally and occupied a 700 sq.m. with the installation of arbitrary wooden structures and the development of umbrella seats.

- temporarily responsible business which occupied a 450 sq.m. beach section, with the installation of an arbitrary wooden structure and the development of umbrella seats without a permit.

At Paros:

- Eight people as temporary managers/legal representatives/owners of businesses-shops of health interest that occupied, as the case may be, parts of the seashore-beach with the development of umbrella seats/table seats without a permit,

- Four people as temporary managers/legal representatives of businesses-shops of health interest that occupied, as the case may be, parts of the seafront-beach with the development of umbrella seats/table seats in excess of the permit.

 In Antiparos:

- legal representative of a company that occupied a part of the seafront-beach with the development of 39 sets of umbrella seats in an area of 350 sq.m. without permission,

- temporarily in charge of a store of health interest which occupied a section of the beach with the development of 38 sets of umbrella seats in an area of 544 sq.m. without permission,

-temporarily manager of a business that occupied a section of the seafront-beach with the development of sets of umbrella seats-table seats with

parasol in an area of 730 sq.m. without permission,

-temporarily manager of a store of health interest which occupied a seafront-beach section with the development of 38 sets of umbrella seats in an area of 480 sq.m. without permission.

 In Naxos:

- legal representative of a company that occupied a part of the beach with the development of 30 sets of umbrella seats in an area of 230 sq.m. lacking a relevant license,

- temporarily in charge of a store of health interest which occupied a section of the seafront-beach with the development of 46 sets of umbrella seats in an area of 415 sq.m. in excess of the permit.

In Karpathos:

- a business owner who occupied a part of the beach with the development of 38 sets of umbrella seats in excess of the permit.

In Rhodes:

-temporarily manager and employee of a store of health interest which illegally occupied part of a shared-public space within an archaeological zone with the development of 45 sets of umbrella seats,

-two employees of a health care store which illegally occupied part of a shared-public space within an archaeological zone with the development of 300 sets of umbrella seats,

-temporarily manager of a store of health interest which operated illegally and occupied a 690 sq.m. with the installation of arbitrary constructions - the development of table seats, as well as umbrella seats at a distance of less than 5 meters from the coastline, thus preventing the public's free access to the sea,

In all cases, the co-competent Services are informed of their own further actions.

Targeted controls to observe the legality of beaches will continue.
