The UN high commissioner for refugees, Filippo Grandi, will start a three-day visit to Athens on Tuesday to assess the humanitarian needs of the refugees and migrants hosted in Greece and find ways to help the country tackle the issue.

Yesterday’s violence at the Greece-Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia border near Eidomeni and the extensive scenes we have all seen of teargas in use are a matter of great worry to UNHCR.

The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) is concerned about the increasingly precarious situation at the border between Greece and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), where force was used earlier today to prevent people from crossing.
