The worst fears of a potential spread of monkeypox from the African countries where it originated to the rest of the world have been confirmed by the World Health Organization’s announcement of the first case in a European country, specifically in Sweden.

A new virus alert has Greek Facebook users worrying all day. Many Greeks woke up this morning to find zipped archives from Facebook friends in their inboxes. Most of them contained supposed photos or videos with provocative titles such as “this gave me a headache”, “check this out, you'll love it”, or “sexy pics inside”.

It is no longer speculation, as the National Influenza Report Lab for southern Greece, a department of the Pasteur Institute confirms the flu virus has been spreading rapidly in the country.
