All eyes are now on the forensic examination in the case that has shocked the historic town of Mystras, near Sparta, after the body of a 90-year-old man was found inside a freezer in the basement of a hotel owned by his 55-year-old son. The arrested man claims his father died of natural causes around two and a half years ago and that he concealed the death in order to continue collecting his pension, but testimony from local residents places the elderly man’s disappearance considerably earlier, a discrepancy that is now one of the central questions authorities must resolve.

Afghan boxer to testify Wednesday in killing of British aid worker found in suitcase in Athens

Sharif Ahmadzai, a 26-year-old Afghan professional boxer, is due to appear before an investigating magistrate Wednesday over the killing of British aid worker Elizabeth-Jane Ross, whose body was found stuffed inside a suitcase in a derelict building in Athens's Kypseli district. Mr. Ahmadzai denies killing her, claiming he found her already dead and hid her body to avoid being implicated.

Greece plans €4.7 billion in early debt repayments by year-end

Greece is accelerating its strategy of early public debt repayments, with two additional repayments worth a combined 4.7 billion euros scheduled before the end of 2026, following an initial transaction completed on June 15.
