Officially, Panathinaikos and Euroleague were led to a final “divorce”, with the “Greens” announcing that at the end of this season they will leave the tournament.
In an unprecedented move, the owner of Panathinaikos basketball club, Dimitris Giannakopoulos decided to ask the team’s fans about whether the club should continue taking part in the Euroleague after Europe’s top basketball league rejected an appeal made by Pana’s owner for the suspension of a penalty imposed on him.
UEFA, the football organisation for Europe, has punished Greek club Panathinaikos with a year’s disqualification from all competitions in Europe until the team’s management pays off its pending financial obligations.
