The expertise, which the IRS has already developed for the control of transactions in cryptocurrencies and digital assets, is sought to be utilized by Greece's Independent Public Revenue Authority-AADE. During a meeting, at the IRS offices, in Washington, the Director of the AADE, Giorgos Pitsilis, and the Acting Commissioner of the IRS, Douglas O'Donnell, discussed the prospect of cooperation between the two services in this field.

As became known, Judicial Watch released newly obtained internal IRS documents, including material revealing that Sen. John McCain’s former staff director and chief counsel on the Senate Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee, Henry Kerner, urged top IRS officials, including then-director of exempt organizations Lois Lerner, to “audit so many that it becomes financially ruinous.”
