Terrorist bombing next to Hagia Sophia

An explosion hit Istanbul’s historic Sultanahmet Square early Tuesday and injuries as well as deaths have been reported.
The explosion reportedly took place near the Sultanahmet Tram station and Dikilitaş, the Obelisk of Theodosius at around 10.20 a.m.
Latest information released by authorities show a 28 year old Syrian national as the perpetrator, while most of the victims are tourists.
Many ambulances and police units have been dispatched to the scene of the explosion, while the injured were said to have been carried to the hospitals.
Bomb squads have also arrived at the scene, and the police have sealed off the area.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear.
Further details were not yet available.
The Sultanahmet district is home to the Hagia Sophia museum and Istanbul’s iconic Blue Mosque, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Turkey.
