A 6.1-magnitude quake has struck off the eastern coast of the island of Crete near the town of Heraklion, according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute on Thursday.

Athens is one of the leading tourist locations in the world this year, according to TripAdvisor.

An educational volunteer program that teaches promising and at-risk youth English has been set up on Crete, in addition to a recreational and craft program for handicapped youth and adults.
