Investigation on fake news about impending 9.5 Richter quake on Crete
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
An urgent preliminary examination of the content of the publication that spoke of a major earthquake in Crete was ordered yesterday by the prosecutor of Herakleion, Thanasis Galinas.
On the basis of the order, the Criminal Investigation Division took over the preliminary investigation, which will begin searching for the identity of the administrator and the data on the site where the 9.5 Richter earthquake news was published in Crete.
The "reportage" about a 9.5 Richter earthquake was released a few days ago, causing panic among the residents of Crete. The name of seismologist Efthimios Lekka and he has done a study in collaboration with a Lithuanian seismologist named James Roguard, also came up in the report.
On his part, Mr Lekkas distanvced his position directly by making a speech about a miserable article against the society that violates his scientific entity and course, while stressing that he has never worked with the Lithuanian seismologist.
At the same time, he noted that there could be no earthquake of such magnitude in Greece as, as he explained, the tectonic plates in the country do not give such magnitudes.
