Refugee boat capsizes; 31 rescued, 8 missing

An old wooden boat that was carrying refugees and migrants to Lesvos island crashed at 11:30 on Thursday into an open seas Coast Guard patrol vessel due to rough seas and strong winds blowing in the area.

Hellenic pavilion at AUSA 2015

The opwning of the Greek pavilion at AUSA 2015 exhibition was marked by great success and unprecedented participation of all those involved in the defense industry, on 12 October.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was undertaken by the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Dimitris Vitsas, Ambassador of Greece in Washington, Mr. Christos Panagopoulos, the president of AUSA General Gordon Sullivan and the President of the Hellenic-American Chamber Mr. Simos Anastasopoulos.

Getty Villa displays collection of early 19th century illustrations and panoramas of Greece

“Almost every rock, every promontory, every river, is haunted by the shadows of the mighty dead,” wrote the English antiquarian Edward Dodwell of his travels in Greece at the beginning of the nineteenth century. During this time, he and the Italian artist Simone Pomardi traversed the country, producing around one thousand watercolors and drawings of the ancient Greek countryside.
