Europe will have to take measures against Turkey "if the situation escalates at Cyprus' expense," said New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday, interviewed on Star TV. 

European Union member-states are calling on the European Commission to propose appropriate measures against Turkey because of the continuing drilling in the Cyprus Republic's Exclusive Economic Zone, Commissioner for Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn said on Tuesday during a press conference following a session of the Council of the EU.

Foreign Minister George Katrougalos on Wednesday highlighted the importance of a decision to impose EU sanctions on Turkey over the drilling initiated in Cyprus's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), taken by the General Affairs Council on Tuesday evening, in an interview with radio station "104.9 FM".
