ACS Athens Recognized as an Exemplar School, Setting a Global Standard in Education

In a landmark moment for international education, ACS Athens has been recognized as an Exemplar School by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges (MSA)—a distinction that affirms the school’s bold vision, academic rigor, and unwavering commitment to student-centered learning.

The recognition places ACS Athens among a select group of institutions acknowledged for operating at the highest levels of educational excellence, innovation, and institutional maturity. More than an accreditation milestone, the honor reflects years of purposeful work by faculty, staff, leadership, and students who have collectively built a culture rooted in inquiry, integrity, and transformation.

As part of this achievement, ACS Athens hosted an international Colloquium on April 29–30, 2026, coinciding with MSA’s mid-year review. The academic gathering became a powerful showcase of the school’s forward-thinking educational model—one that emphasizes research-driven teaching, holistic development, and meaningful preparation for life beyond the classroom.

Educators, scholars, students, and distinguished guests from around the world came together to experience firsthand what makes ACS Athens unique: a vibrant learning community where innovation is not simply discussed, but practiced daily.

At the heart of that success is a united community guided by shared purpose.

“Our strength comes from who we are together,” said Dr. Peggy Pelonis. “We cultivate a culture of being, and we live the very principles we seek to inspire in our students each day.”

That philosophy was echoed in the visiting team’s oral report, which praised ACS Athens for demonstrating “positive trends in student growth, instructional practice, inclusion, and post-secondary readiness,” while also commending the school’s openness in acknowledging challenges with honesty and professional reflection.

The review team noted that this balance—confidence in progress paired with humility in evaluation—is what defines a school operating at the highest level of professional maturity.

Perhaps the most powerful affirmation came in their conclusion: “ACS Athens demonstrates the characteristics of a true learning organization… ACS Athens is an exemplar of the Sustaining Excellence protocol in every aspect and in every way.”

For ACS Athens, this recognition is more than an accolade—it is validation of a vision long held and deeply believed in: that education should shape not only strong students, but thoughtful, capable, and compassionate global citizens prepared for higher education, leadership, and life.

As the school looks ahead, one thing is clear: ACS Athens is not simply participating in the future of education—it is helping define it.

Trump, Rubio & Hegseth to visit Athens in July

A visit to Greece by U.S. President Donald Trump, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio is being planned for July.

According to information from protothema.gr, the top American officials will be in Athens before heading to Turkey for the emergency NATO summit at the beginning of July.

It is recalled that the U.S. ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, had revealed last February that Donald Trump would visit Greece, commenting that “it will be an incredible honor for the country.”

The upcoming visit carries particular geopolitical significance, as it comes during a period of increased U.S. activity in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region. Immediately after their presence in Greece, Trump and Hegseth, along with Rubio, are expected to travel to Turkey for the NATO Summit, highlighting Greece’s role as a critical stop in the Alliance’s southeastern flank.

The timing, coinciding with the celebration of 250 years of American independence, adds further symbolism to the visit, during which discussions may include defence cooperation, developments in the Middle East, and Greece’s role as an energy and strategic hub.

In any case, the presence of top U.S. officials in Greece confirms the ongoing strengthening of bilateral relations and fits into a broader framework of shifts on the international stage, with the region gaining increasing importance for the West.

Feta Production Feels the Aftershocks of Last Year’s Livestock Crisis

The prolonged outbreak of sheep pox last year is now leaving a visible mark on Greece’s dairy sector, particularly its feta industry. The most significant consequence has been a drop in the volume of sheep’s milk collected by cheesemakers toward the end of 2025—and beyond—resulting in reduced feta production for the current season.
